Imokilly Mini Stages Rally

Youghals Jason Ryan will battle for top local driver

The plans are made, the roads are ready, and the entries are coming in. The club is delighted to have over 60 registrations in already with 2 weeks to go.

One of the important things to remember is that the rally will be taking place on closed public roads so there will be some minor traffic disruption in the locality. All the residents on the live stages have been informed. Areas to note are around Killeagh, Inch Park on stage one or Killeagh, Mount Uniacke and towards Doungourney on stage 2. The rally will be in those areas and then move back to Midleton for both services and the finish.

The Gardaí have worked with the Imokilly Motor Club to keep disruption to a minimum in these locations and the club are appreciative of the cooperation of all involved.

The club have also decided to make the Rally more accessible and have decided to have a ceremonial start on the Saturday evening at 7PM July 21st on Main Street Midleton. This presents a great opportunity to showcase the vehicles, drivers and navigators to the people of the town and visitors that would not normally be exposed to the sport.

To create a festive atmosphere around this event, which many consider to be the biggest sporting occasion in East Cork in 2018, the club have also arranged that there will be food stalls at the ceremony and a special guest on the night to help entertain spectators. Club merchandise will also be on sale.

Club members are working hard to get ready and see if they can take the honours of IMC top local driver this year. Jason Ryan from Youghal is viewed as the driver to beat following recent success over the last few years. However, indications are that the opposition is looking tougher and with Midletons Colin Byrne in his Escort hoping to be the first IMC driver home in 2018, this may well be the case.

The rally begins on Sunday the 22nd of July.
