News from the Weekend

Defending Hewison Autotest champion Ian White of Kilkenny and his main rival for the title, Guy Foster, had a win apiece in the Sligo double header weekend at Aughamore, with the Navan driver narrowing the gap to just two points as the series reaches its halfway point.

Local driver David Thompson was poised for victory on both days, but a disastrous final test on Saturday, where he collected two pylon penalties, dropped him from the lead to third place behind Peter Grimes. Yesterday, his Nova’s engine went sick over the closing tests and his four second lead was wiped out, leaving him with the heartbreak of being beaten by just one tenth of a second.

Kildareman Padraic McHale won the final round of the Five Star Catering National Loose Autocross Championship in Co Clare to add another title to his collection.
