Pinnacle Motorsport back on the F3 Asia podium at Shanghai

With an expanded three-car lineup, Pinnacle Motorsport has repeated its success in the F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA during the penultimate event of 2019. The Irish-licensed team showed strong form at the Shanghai International Circuit all weekend, which resulted in another podium finish last September 6 to 8.

Jordan Dempsey was the quickest of the three drivers, qualifying his #3 machine P6 in QTT1 and improved to P4 by QTT2. Series returnee Ayrton Simmons was also a close match to his teammate who ended the sessions in P7 and P6, while Australian driver Tommy Smith was P11 for Saturday's grid.

The Pinnacle Motorsport drivers would all get a clean getaway on Saturday's Race 1. Dempsey picked up a spot in the opening laps, but came under attack for more than half the race distance. The Irish driver had to drive with an eye on the rear view mirror and successfully defend his position to earn him 5th place across the line. Smith also did well to move up two positions during the 15-lap race to take 9th. Simmons, other other hand, was on route to a strong P7 when a technical problem on his #12 car sadly ended the Britton's race just two laps from the finish.

A clean Race 2 on Sunday morning saw the trio drive in formation from start to end. Dempsey lead the train of Pinnacle Motorsport entires in 8th, followed by Simmons in 9th, and Smith in 10th as they completed an error-free run to add to the team's points in the championship.

Things eventually fell into place during the final race of the weekend. Dempsey capitalized on the crash between two front runners at the start of Race 3 and slotted into P3 after the Safety Car restart. He then hounded Jack Doohan for a possible P2 spot and gave the Red Bull Junior driver a run for his money. Although he didn't find a way past, the Irishman was more than pleased to take the chequered flag in 3rd and score his and Pinnacle Motorsport's second podium of the season.

Simmons also benefited from the opening-lap melee and trailed behind Dempsey until the chequered flag dropped where he claimed his best 4th place finish. Smith, on the other hand, was also busy with his own on-track battles and safely wrapped up his weekend in China with another 10th place.

Pinnacle Motorsport just has two weeks to prepare for the season finale on September 27 to 28 as the F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA returns to the Shanghai International Circuit.

John O'Hara, Team Director: “It feels good to be back on the F3 Asia podium. We came to Shanghai with high hopes of repeating our performance in Japan and happy to see Jordan, Ayrton, and Tommy have good battles on track. Although we could have improved in some areas, the team's hard work paid off well with Jordan finishing 3rd and Ayrton in a strong 4th on Sunday.”

Accompanying Pinnacle Motorsport on their F3 Asian Championship campaign are partners Teng Tools, Motorsport Ireland, B-Max Racing Team, and Seth Ascetic.
