Mondello Park Confirms Plans to run 6 Hour Fiesta Race When Restrictions Allow
Mondello Park this morning confirmed that their annual 6 Hour Endurance Fiesta Zetec Race will indeed run in 2021, however the event will not go ahead on the planned date of January 24th.
Current restrictions would obviously prevent the race from running but with motor racing activities having been few and far between in the last number of months, interest in the event has been unprecedented.
Leo Nulty, MPSC Promoter commented: “While it is disappointing not to be able to run the event this month, the priority has to be to follow the protocols to fight against the Covid 19 virus. The interest in the event this time round has understandably been very strong, with as many as four BTCC drivers expected to join a host of regular racers and some well known Irish rally names on the grid. Obviously we do not yet have an alternative date, but it will run when restrictions allow, and will more than likely be the first event once Mondello can open their gates for the first time in 2021.”
Entries remain open on mondellopark.ie – all you need is a Fiesta Zetec Racecar conforming to championship regs, a team of three or four drivers and a team manager and you can join some famous names in one of the most popular events of the year!
About the 6 Hour Endurance Race
The Mondello Park 6 Hour Endurance Race is one of the most popular races on the motor racing calendar, often attracting upwards of 100 drivers to the Kildare venue. In teams of three of four drivers, they use Fiesta 1.25 Zetec racecars, as used in the Mondello run Zetec Fiesta Championship. The event begins at 12 midday and ends, in the dark, at 6pm. Historically, the race has attracted a horde of international talent to take on the best of the Irish saloon and single seater drivers. Former F1 drivers David Kennedy and Tommy Byrne, rally aces Eugene Donnelly and Austin McHale and BTCC champion Colin Turkington have all starred at the event.
