Watch the 1991 Circuit of Ireland Preview from 7pm on Thursday, Jan 14th
This week’s Motorsport Ireland – RIAC classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is their preview show of the 1991 Circuit of Ireland Rally.
1991 marked the end of an era for the Circuit of Ireland in many ways as it was to be the last year it was to be a counting round of the British Open Championship and a co-efficient round of the European Rally Championship as well as the conclusion of the sponsorship deal with Bank of Ireland Finance. This preview show features an interview with motorsport journalist Sammy Hammill on the history of the event, a review of the 1990 event as well as the thoughts of all the leading contenders for the 1991 event including Bertie Fisher and Colin McRae. The 200 mile, 29 stage event was to visit 12 counties as the 45 car entry made their way from the start in Belfast to the coastal town of Dún Laoghaire.

Next week’s upload will feature a tribute programme to Bertie, Mark and Emma Fisher which first aired 20 years ago following the tragic helicopter accident which claimed their lives.
