Watch the 1996 Rothmans Historic Grand Prix from 7pm, Thursday August 19th
This week’s Motorsport Ireland – RIAC classic video from the RPM Motorsport collection is highlights from the 1996 Rothmans Historic Grand Prix which was held in the Phoenix Park.
In 1996 the Phoenix Park echoed to the sounds of yesteryear with a sensational grid of cars starting the Rothmans Historic Grand Prix. Maseratis, ERAs, Cooper Bristols, Bugattis and Alfas thrilled the crowds in near perfect conditions. Burkhart von Schenk eventually won after a race long tussle with Ludovic Lindsay, the pair both driving iconic Maserati 250F’s. In the commentary box, Alan Tyndall was joined by Colm Doherty and none other than Damon Hill who would go on to be crowned F1 World Champion that season.
This programme will be available to stream below from 7pm on August 19th.
Next week’s upload will feature highlights from the 2001 Limerick Rallysprint.
