A NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF MOTORSPORT IRELAND
What a year 2020 has been, it has without a doubt been the most challenging year that most of us will have seen in our lifetime.
Motorsport was on a steady journey with an intact safety record when Covid-19 put a huge damper on everything as you cannot continue to build a good safety record if there are no events. We have developed a positive relationship with our insurance broker, MIS Insurance and our public liability provider, Allianz over the past two years and we were able to agree with them a package that would allow us to restart even in a small way.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE VOLUNTEERS AND OFFICIALS COMMISSION
A very Happy New Year to all our volunteers and officials for 2021. 2020 was such a strange year and for so many of our volunteers, a missed year. Missing the action, missing our friends missing talking sh…Motorsport!!
When we canvassed our Volunteers last May to find out how they felt about returning to sport, I never expected that eight months later we would be back in a situation with no events. The single biggest answer to the question ‘When will you feel comfortable volunteering again?’ was ‘When there is a vaccine available’, and I really didn’t expect that to be the reality that it is now rapidly emerging.
So many of you will have been affected by the pandemic in more ways than one.

EXTENSIONS AVAILABLE FOR MOTORSPORT IRELAND OFFICIALS LICENCES
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, all in-person training has been suspended until it is safe to run specific training courses, which we hope will be in the second half of 2021. Prior to the current upsurge in cases, we had originally pencilled in courses for June, however we have no choice but to keep this under constant review.
At a recent meeting of the Motor Sport Council, it was agreed that officials whose licences expired at the end of 2020 could obtain a Six-Month extension to this licence if they needed to use it for an event in the first half of 2021. To do this, officials should email [email protected], stating their name, licence number, licence type and the event(s) for which the licence is needed.
