A wonderful return to racing at Mondello Park

  

Mondello Park roared to life last weekend as racing returned to the Kildare track with the 2021 Digital Motorsports Irish Championship Circuit Racing getting underway with full race cards on both Saturday and Sunday. 

In race one of the Bill Griffin Motors Styker Championship, Michael Cullen took victory just ahead of Adran Deasy and Vicent O’Rourke. In the Selco.ie Formula Vee Championship, the opening race went to Anthony Cross in his Sheane Vee who took the victory coming home just ahead of Jack Byrne in his LOH Sheane while Gavin Buckley rounded out the podium. In the opening race of the Impact Ireland Metals Ltd HRCA Championship, it was Bernard Foley who took victory just ahead of Val Thompson with Noel Collins rounding out the top three in his Ford Escort. In race two of the Bill Griffin Motors Styker Championship, Michael Cullen once again claimed victory coming home ahead of Adrian Deasy and Andrew Dalton. Dave Griffin came home in fourth just ahead of Des Meehan and Kevin McGrath while Pat Bergin was eighth just ahead of Stephen Kelly, with Stephen Malone rounded out the top ten. In race two of the Selco.ie Formula Vee Championship it was Dan Polly who took victory ahead of Anthony Cross and Mark Reade. Jordan Kelly came home in fourth place with a strong result while Tim Murray rounded out the top five. 

On Sunday, in blistering heat, in the Irish Supercars championship Gary Corcoran took victory in the Irish Supercars coming home just ahead of Alan Watkins and Charlie Linnane in an incident packed race which saw three drivers, Ian Newport, John Newport and Paul Parr all recording DNFs. In the Irish Touring Car Championship, Ulick Burke in his Honda Integra took victory in the first race of the season coming home just ahead of Adrian Dunne and Jay O’Reilly. Shane Murphy triumphed in the SEAT Supercup Ireland series and in doing so has taken the early championship points lead. In the popular Fiesta Zetec class, Michael Barrable claimed victory over James Fleming and Darragh Brennan and Richie Byrne. Andy Kavanagh was fifth just ahead of Philip Lawless and Garry Bradley. Gerard O'Connell had a dream debut in Formula BOSS Ireland, winning both races in his Dallara World Series.

The next round of the 2021 Irish Circuit Championship Racing season takes places at Mondello Park from July 17 and 18.
