Aiden Harper Elected as President of Motorsport Ireland 

At the January meeting of the Motor Sport Council, Aiden Harper was elected President of Motorsport Ireland. Aiden succeeds John Naylor who has completed his second term in office, having served in the role for the past four years. Aiden previously held the position of Vice President of Motorsport Ireland for the last two years. 

Commenting on his appointment Aiden said; “I would like to thank the Motorsport Council for entrusting me with the Presidency and especially thank John Naylor for his leadership and commitment to our sport over the years. Our Sport has had its own difficulties in the last 21 months with the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, building on the return to sport protocols that were introduced in 2021 and allowing our events to return safely, a framework is now in place to drive the sport forward into 2022 and beyond."

Aiden continued; “I acknowledge the challenges that our sport has been through recently but I believe we are ready to enter 2022 in a more positive light and to continue the good work that has begun. Our Motor Clubs are at the heart of what we do and together we can continue to collaborate and build on a future framework. Motorsport in Ireland is an enormous machine made up of incredible volunteers, Councils, Commissions, working groups and office staff, all working alongside professional services in medical, legal and state organisations such as Sport Ireland and the Road Safety Authority. Our future is exciting as we drive sustainable growth amongst our specialised motorsport disciplines.” 

Aiden is a native of Edgeworthstown in Co. Longford and has been involved in motorsport for the past thirty years, starting at a grass roots level with his local club, Midland Motor Club. Over the years Aiden has been heavily involved with safety in our sport, an active member of the Rallies Commission and Chair of the Safety Commission. Aiden also sits on the FIA Road Closed Commission and has officiated home and abroad on many events over the years.
