Motorsport Ireland Announces Clarification on Refuelling for 2025 and Beyond
Motorsport Ireland is pleased to announce important clarifications regarding refuelling on Stage Rallies, after establishing a panel to collaborate with insurers, as communicated with clubs on January 29th. These efforts have led to several key clarifications, ensuring a more efficient and practical process for competitors and clubs.
Among the most significant updates, Motorsport Ireland can confirm that self-refuelling, in refuelling areas, will be allowed for all of 2025, the 2km restriction on refuelling area distances from the service area has been removed and there is an outlined, transition plan towards commercial refuelling with Euro M-Sport in 2026.
Motorsport Ireland wish to extend our thanks to MIS Commercial and Euro M-Sport for their support in securing these clarifications.
Key Clarifications
Refuel areas are compulsory on all Motorsport Ireland permitted stage rallies.
The 2km range requirement for refuelling areas from the service area, has been removed.
Self-refuelling, in refuelling areas, will be allowed for the full year in 2025, with a transition to a commercial supplier in 2026.
Pump fuel from petrol stations along rally route will continue to be permitted long-term.
Other motorsport disciplines will not need a separate refuelling area and are not affected.
These changes result from extensive collaboration between the relevant Commissions, the Motorsport Council, and the Motorsport Ireland Office. We ask all competitors to cooperate with organisers in refuelling areas in 2025 to maintain the highest safety standards. Any breaches of compliance in relation to refuelling protocols will be sanctioned accordingly, as such breaches would severely jeopardise the future of the sport.
Speaking on today’s update, Motorsport Ireland President, Aiden Harper said; “Removing the 2km restriction, continuing self-refuelling for 2025 and confirming filling station fuel access, ensures greater convenience for competitors and organisers, while the planned transition to commercial refuelling in 2026 ensures compliance with insurer’s requirements, enhancing safety to protect rallying and indeed, all motorsport. We appreciate the efforts of all involved in making this possible.”
Motorsport Ireland remains committed to enhancing safety and accessibility, while maintaining the highest standards for competitors. We thank everyone for their feedback and support and look forward to a safe and successful 2025 season.
