Denning wins on debut Down Under

It was a career-weekend for 2022 Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Alex Denning. The 26-year old from Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin stormed to two race victories on his debut in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia.

The first round of the series got underway at Sydney Motorsport Park in Australia with an impressive 23-car grid of identical Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo. Scattered across the diverse entry list were Le Mans 24 Hour podium finisher Hopin Tung, WEC LMP2 driver Weiron Tan, 2023 GT World Challenge Asia GT3 Silver champion and former Lamborghini junior driver Ling Kang of China, and 2025 Sepang 12 Hours victor Chen Weian.

After a couple of years racing GT4 machinery, Denning made the step up to the Huracan Super Trofeo this year and took to the track with ease. Promising early tests turned to immediate success with front-row qualifying spot locked in at the Sydney circuit, and Denning and his teammate 2024 championship runner-up Charles Leong Hon Chio were able to convert this to a pair of wins for their SJM Theodore Racing.

The series now heads to Shanghai International Circuit, China on 16-18 May where Denning and Leong hope to build on their championship lead and build aspirations of an overall title.
