Statement by the Motorsport Ireland Race Commission
In September 2022, a Motorsport Ireland National Tribunal of Appeal hearing was convened following a July 2022 race meeting in Mondello Park. In the decision statement of the National Tribunal of Appeal, it was stated that ‘The Tribunal note that the Stewards acted outside their authority by imposing a 6 month suspension on [the competitor]’s competition licence.’
We can confirm that this statement was factually incorrect as the stewards of the meeting did not impose any penalty of suspension on the competitor’s licence, the penalty imposed by the stewards on the competitor was exclusion from the race meeting as per the paperwork submitted by the stewards to Motorsport Ireland.
The Motorsport Ireland Race Commission also confirm that the stewards acted wholly in accordance with the General Competition Rules (GCR’s) and did NOT act outside of their authority.
The Motorsport Ireland Race Commission furthermore thank these stewards, and the many volunteers throughout our sport who readily give up their time to officiate and without whom our sport could not function.
