A flying finish for National Autotesting
With 5 rounds down, and just 2 remaining, the National Autotesting season draws to a close this weekend with a double header finale. Titles are up for grabs in almost every class, both overall competitions and the novice section too as the drivers gear up for their final battles of the 2024 series!
The resurrected and refreshed “Championship and Challenge” has been somewhat of a success story with entry numbers significantly increased compared to it’s previous guise. Thanks to a new format, events are now suitable and enjoyable for everything from a road-going hatchback all the way up to lightweight specials that complete more complex routes.
On Saturday County Kildare Motor Club’s event will take place in the most unusual venue on this year's calendar as competitors will compete around the hangers and on the slipways of Kilrush Airfield just south of Newbridge. The following day the Trial Drivers Club’s prestigious “Howard Wilde Memorial Autotest” will move from its Charlesland home of recent years to the new venue of Chadwicks, Lucan. With both events so close to Dublin we can expect a few more spectators than usual to come out for a look!
Full details about both events can be seen via IrishAutotesting.com with entries still available via the StopAstride system. If you are interested in taking part, any newcomers that take part this weekend will still qualify as a “Novice” next year. One day licences are available, small hatchbacks are ideal and no expensive safety equipment is needed!
