Jason Smyth Secures Final Young Racing Driver of the Year Nomination

Jason Smyth from Celbridge, Co. Kildare has been selected as the final monthly nominee for the Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver Award.

The 18 year-old Kildare driver campaigned successfully in Formula Ford in 2024, securing the 2024 Northern Ireland Formula Ford Championship. Jason’s pace and consistency also saw some him net some impressive results in the British United Formula Ford Championship with Team Dolan.

Smyth’s total of 14 wins throughout the season currently see him lie in 8th place in the Ryan Motorsport Insurance Autosport National Rankings.

Commenting on his nomination Smyth said; “I feel very honoured to be one of the nominees for the 2024 Young Racing Driver of the Year Award. It’s been won by some fantastic drivers in the past. To win the award would mean so much to me as I would be following in the footsteps of my grandfather, Dick Smyth, who won the award in 1983.”

The Kildare man currently studies Building Engineering at Technological University Dublin. His sponsors are FreeM Ireland, Potato Nation, Bold Engineering, RTA Virtual Motorsports and Scholar Engines.

Smyth joins the previously nominated Brandon McCaughan, Max Hart, Jamie Moylan, Logan Hoey, Joshua Henry, Sean McGovern and David Maguire as a contender for the prestigious Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Award and the historic Sexton Trophy. This award is presented annually with the winner receives a €50,000 support package to help develop their motor racing career The winner will be selected by a panel of esteemed judges and will be announced at the annual Motorsport Ireland Champions of Irish Motorsport Awards on Wednesday, December 4th.

The awards lunch will be live streamed to the Motorsport Ireland website, motorsportireland.com.
